The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC celebrated the Victory Day of Bangladesh with due respect and enthusiasm. Messages from President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out on the occasion.Īmbassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Rabab Fatima gave the welcome speech in a programme marking the day.ĭuring the time, she paid deep respects to Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and other family members of Bangabandhu who were martyred on 15th August, 1975, four national leaders and 30 lakh martyrs and two lakh repressed mothers as well as sisters of the Great Liberation War. In the context of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus, virtual discussions were held maintaining proper health rules with the presence of expatriate freedom fighters, the United States unit of Awami League (AL) and expatriate Bangladeshi leaders of various professions including young Bangladeshi-Americans involved in the mainstream of the United State.Ī special prayer was offered seeking the eternal peace of the departed souls of the heroic martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the Great War of Liberation. The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations celebrated the day amid much fanfare and festivity. The missions celebrated the day with elaborate programmes, including hoisting of the national flags, discussions, cultural functions and offering special prayers seeking divine blessings for the martyrs of the Liberation War. Homage was paid to the martyred freedom fighters and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman prior to the beginning of the day-long programmes marking the "Golden Jubilee" of the independence of Bangladesh and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, according to messages received here from Bangladesh missions abroad.īangladesh embassies and High Commissions of various countries including the United States, Canada, Italy, Montenegro and Serbia, Portugal, Nigeria and Mexico observed the day with due dignity. ![]() The Victory Day was celebrated on Thursday in Bangladesh missions abroad amid great festivity and fervour paying homage to millions of freedom fighters who embraced martyrdom to liberate Bangladesh from the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971. ![]()
